About the Author
Leadership Begins at Home
Rich Shannon believes leadership is not defined by a title—it is revealed through the way we serve others every day.
Before he is a CEO, executive, or business leader, Rich considers his greatest responsibilities to be those closest to home. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Mary Jo, a proud father to Ryan and Gracie, a grateful father-in-law, and a proud grandfather. He also treasures the roles of uncle, mentor, leader, and friend, believing that true success is measured not by the positions we hold, but by the lives we positively influence.
Throughout his career, Rich has built and led organizations by developing people, creating high-performing teams, and implementing systems that drive sustainable growth. His passion is helping leaders grow personally and professionally while building businesses rooted in integrity, discipline, accountability, and servant leadership.
His leadership philosophy is simple:
Lead Yourself First. Build Great People. Execute with Discipline. Leave a Legacy.
Outside of work, Rich is an avid outdoorsman who finds many of life's greatest lessons in the mountains and on the water. Whether he's pursuing elk in the backcountry, casting a line on a quiet lake, backpacking through rugged terrain, or enjoying a round of golf, he believes adventure develops resilience, patience, preparation, and gratitude.
Rich is also a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys discovering great restaurants and loves cooking for family and friends. Around the dinner table, he believes meaningful conversations are shared, relationships are strengthened, and lasting memories are created. For Rich, some of life's greatest leadership lessons happen not in the boardroom, but around the table with the people you love.
Committed to lifelong growth, Rich is passionate about leadership development, personal discipline, health, and continuous learning. His own health transformation reinforced a principle that now shapes both his life and his leadership:
The way you lead yourself determines the way you lead everything else.
Lead with Discipline is the culmination of decades of lessons learned through business, leadership, family, personal growth, and faith. Rich's hope is that the Executive Operating System presented in these pages will equip leaders to build lives of greater purpose, stronger relationships, healthier habits, and a legacy that extends far beyond professional success.
Help leaders build extraordinary lives through ordinary disciplines practiced consistently.
